TAKING CARE OF YOUR BRAIN

Brain Health is optimized brain function. It is having your brain work the best that it can at this particular moment in time for you. Brain Health is in constant flux based on how well you have slept, eaten, attended to stresses, and taken care of yourself.

HEART RELATED TESTS

We understand now the direct link of the heart health to the brain health. If the heart is unhealthy so will be the brain. The brain has the largest demand for energy in the body, about 20%. It gets this energy directly from the blood and the resulting oxygen and nutrients are pumped to it by the heart. If plaques or other restrictions are preventing the circulation of blood to the heart, the brain will be performing sub-optimally. Part of any program addressing brain health should include radiological exams of 1) a Calcium Scoring Scan and 2) an MRI of the brain with Neuroquantitative analysis.

CALCIUM SCORING TEST

This is a test I recommend to see if atherosclerosis plaques that are calcified exist in the arteries of the heart. If you have a cardiac stent this test is not helpful since the stent distorts the results. It is a 3 minute CAT Scan of your heart.

APOB

This is a test helping determine the usage of statin therapy.

Lp(a)

An inherited inflammatory factor that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.
